Sydney takes on a whole different feeling at night. The city takes on a beautiful feeling that you only get from seaside cities. There are a lot of things to do in Sydney at night other than drinking (although this is most definitely one of the things to do). We wanted to write up a list from a locals perspective of five of the best things to do in Sydney at night.
So take a step into the shadows and discover some of the great things to do below.
Walking the foreshore
What better way to enjoy the city lights then taking a stroll around Circular Quay and the Rocks. Two amazing areas to take in the city lights, the reflections of the harbour and the classic structures of the cities founding.
Taking in the Opera
It’s the opera. Sydney’s Opera House. Do I need to say more?
If I do I’ll begrudgingly admit that for a while I took the Sydney Opera House for granted. But! When you’ve seen Carmen, Aida or Rigoletto you’ll see the Opera House for what it really is. A truly unique piece of architecture showing some of the worlds best performances.
Taking the ferry – anywhere
Jumping in a ferry is one of the best ways to travel around Sydney at the best of times. But in the evening it just gets better. Ferries that run in and around the inner harbour take in some of the best views of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. Get your cameras ready.
One of the best and shortest routes you can take is from Circular Quay to Darling Harbour and back again. It’ll take you out past the Opera House and under the bridge. And for a few dollars, so why not?
Dining, anywhere you want
One of the biggest draw cards of Sydney is its amazing food scene. I’m not talking delicious street food of five star bistros, I’m just talking about variety. There are so many immigrants in Sydney that it has been a breeding ground for amazing international food.
Head out for Korean or Italy and you might as well be taking a flight there. People that have made Sydney their home, and they love to share their heritage and cooking!
Being a local – things to do in Sydney at night
Locals would like to say that they are sophisticated and spend their evenings taking in the city lights and enjoying the opera. But as a local I’d disagree with that, a little.
Locals will more likely be found dragging themselves through bars and restaurants looking for the next drink. If you’ll looking for a great place for a beer or a cocktail check out Palmer & Co. for some good old fashioned drinking.
