Bangkok is full of life and energy whilst the essence of its cultural substance have slowly disappeared behind walls and a chance to expose and experience these fading, alluring places – one needs to roam with a local.
My tours focus on The Old Bangkok – one of my favorite places for cultural buffs, off the beaten track foodies, street photography, antique hunting and a take on Bangkok in a total different light, away from the dazzling concrete towers, mammoth shopping malls and fast food buzz.
What you will see:
Meet and greet at one of the piers on The River of Kings (location TBD to the convenience of the guests). A quick overview of the trip, the DO’s and DONT’s as respectable tourists and brief Q&A. Hop on river boat / long tail boat to experience the sights new and traditional river life, the people and the remants of post Sino Portuguese eras .
Disembark and walk through narrow streets – camera rolls ready please! Hawkers and busy alley shops as we walk along out to the open streets and over the Grand Palace (will not enter, brisk walk around it highlights), opportunity to past several ministry buildings and notice the strong French and European influenced-designs in this area.
We will walk through the 24 hr Flower Market and Fresh Wet Market (this will be an experience! Yes, it will be somewhat wet, but that’s the whole messy fun of it all!). Opportunity to see how fresh produces come from the all corners of the country then being sold by wee hours of the morning before the city awakes in the morning and carries activities throughout the day.
Final Stop – a breath taking view of Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) and a chance to unwind on upper deck, roof chill lounge with your favorite drink, snacks or High Tea at The Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
