Best Markets In Melbourne

Melbourne is a little slice of Europe in Australia.  This beautiful city with culture lined streets seems to always be hiding some secret in its alleyways.  Famous for style, hidden bars, coffee that you could degrease an engine with beautiful architecture it’s a must visit.  There are so many hidden parts to this city that you really need a local guide to get the most out of your visit.  One of the things the city is famous for is its great markets.  So if you want to find some unique things to take home here is our list of the best markets in Melbourne, Australia.

Visit Queen Victoria Market

Melbourne’s largest market and possibly the best place to find something to stuff in your suitcase this market is huge.  With over 600 individual stalls selling everything from t-shirts, mango’s, cheese and perfume this place is a great place to people watch.

Found in the inner city on Elizabeth Street the best time to visit is on the weekends.  Sure, you’ll need to deal with the crowds but that’s what a market is for isn’t it?  The hassle and bustle of it all.  Make sure you take time to check out the fruit and vegetable side of the market.  As time goes by the sellers get louder and the prices get cheaper.

It’s the biggest and definitely one of the best markets in Melbourne.

Take the tram to South Melbourne Markets

The South Melbourne markets are a favourite of many people.  Smaller than the Queen Victoria markets but quiet possibly more delicious.  This market knows how to do food, really really good food.  You’ll find that the locals carry their trolleys from all around just to get here and fill up on the freshest most delicious produce in Melbourne.

Make sure you stop by if you’re a fan of fresh seafood, you’ll find some of the best oysters here, served fresh.  Explore the second hand book store, pick up some locally designed clothes and make sure you try the famous South Melbourne Dim Sim.

Take the tram to St Kilda to get there.

Eat till you roll home at Prahran Market

Prahran Market is the self proclaimed king of food markets in Melbourne, and they aren’t too far from wrong.  This is your go to market for gourmet food and everything that a foodie loves.  It just so happens to be Australia’s longing continuously running market too.

Prahran market is open during the week but the action happens in the weekend.  Cheap eats kick in on a Saturday afternoon.  Stop by and get your foodie on, make sure you get something to take back to the hotel, why not, treat yourself!
