Best Sydney Beach Day Trips

Best Sydney Beach Day Trips shelly beach

Travellers that arrive in Sydney rarely make it outside the city as there is so much to see.  But if time is on your side and you want to escape the rat race you definitely can.  The below are some of the best Sydney beach day trips.  The city is surrounded by beaches to the north, mountains to the west and national parks to the south.

Woy Woy and Ettalong Beach

These great little beach towns are great places to unwind and relax.  Just an hour and a half drive north of Sydney they make for a great beach road trip.

Woy Woy is a tiny little town set on an estuary which has an awesome fish market on the wharf there.  The Fisherman’s Wharf serves fresh fish, oysters and take out fish and chips.  We never stop by here without having a dozen oysters, chips and swordfish.

Just down the road is Ettalong Beach.  Ettalong is an even smaller town that’s just now starting to get known as one of the best Sydney beach day trips.  The town takes up a couple of streets and the locals are really friendly.  Whether you like Saturday markets or fish and chips on the beach it’s a great place to go.  Better still is that the beach (well most of the beach) is dog friendly.

Dee Why, Curl Curl and Freshwater

Sitting around fifty minutes north of Sydney by car Dee Why, Curl Curl and Freshwater make up the three beaches directly north of Manly.  They are laid out in a string so together make one of the best Sydney beach day trips.

If you stop by Curl Curl first you’ll find a great walkway that goes all the way over to Freshwater beach.  The walk takes around forty five minutes each way and takes in Instagram worthy views of Freshwater beach.

Dee Why is ten minutes north of Curl Curl and is full of great restaurants and cafes.  The cafes line the front of the beach but my favourite is getting something to take out and sitting on the edge of the beach watching the surf roll in.

Sydney is surrounded by amazing beaches north and south.  The further you drive the more deserted they get.  For some other great Sydney day trips check out Wollongong, the Blue Mountains and Shelly Beach.  They are all great places for things to do with children in Sydney as well if you’re travelling with kids.
