Seoul is the heaving commercial heart of futuristic South Korea. At the beating centre of it is Myeongdong. This suburb boils with excitement, neon, commerce and people from all over the world. It’s one of the best places to shop and experience the vibe of this city. Here is our list of the best things to do in Myeongdong Seoul.
Shop in Myeongdong – of course
Get off the train in Myeongdong and you’ll be in the middle of one of the busiest commercial areas in the world. The streets of Myeongdong are lined with shops which have ten to fifteen stories of shops on top of them. Really, they are just stacked on top of each other.
Each and every shop screams for your attention, first in English, then Russian and then any language you’ll respond to. People at the entrance to every shop will pull in you and give you free giveaways, anything to get you in the door.

Eat street food
One of my favourite things to do in Myeongdong is eat. There are so many great street food spots and stalls dotted around the streets. Some of them weird and wonderful, others trending and new. If you’re not brave try the giant tall ice cream. If you are brave try the octopus tentacle, it looks strange but it’s damn good.
If you love food or anything cultural it’s one of the best things to do in Myeongdong Seoul.
Christmas in Myeongdong
Koreans know how to Christmas. The holiday season in Myeongdong is absolutely beautiful. The department stores build up for the Christmas period by decking out everything with Christmas lights and decorations on a massive scale.
Stop by during the holiday season and check out the decorations, if you’re are really lucky it might snow. It’s one of the best things to do with kids in Seoul or if you’re in town with a loved one it’s one of the most romantic spots in Seoul.
Baseball is one of the most popular sports in Korea, they are Baseball mad. So much so that in and around Seoul you’ll never be far from a baseball batting cage. It’s a lot of fun with a few friends or with the kids to spend half an hour hitting some baseballs.
They are very cheap and all you need to do is follow the ‘ping’ sound of bat on ball to find one. They tend to play this very loudly out into the street! It’s one of the best things to do in Myeongdong Seoul.
Myeongdong has a massive underground shopping complex. So big that it’s easy to either spend a day in here or to just plain get lost. Most of the shops are fashion and clothing shops and you’ll find some great bargains. You’ll find the easiest way to get to Myeongdong underground shopping centre is to take the subway to Line 2 Euljiro 1(il)-ga Exit 7.
How to get to Myeongdong
Myeongdong is quite a massive area. There are several train stations that service the area but if you want to be dropped in the middle of it take subway line 4 to Myeongdong and take exits 5 or 8.
